Trading Yashica's
When one Yashica TLR fails, borrow another
Whelp, the Yashica D I received in December stopped working. After five rolls and 3 images the shutter decided to stop firing. I’ll be sending it back to the seller to see what he can do to fix it. He’s pretty confident it’s something simple and should be back up and running soon. But that puts me out a medium format 6x6 camera, which I was planning to take on an upcoming trip. Bummer!
Here are a few images from the roll that was in the Yashica when it stopped working. This was a roll of Fuji 400H that I was testing out. So sad to waste this roll. But at least I know I can get images out of the rest of the rolls I have from this batch of expired film.
I need something to tide me over while my Yashica D gets fixed, in steps a Yashica Mat 124G. I’m very thankful that I’ve made some connections in the Stl film community, and that those in the community are generous enough to help me out and lend me something to use! I took the Mat 124G out for a spin and put 2 rolls through it. The first roll was a roll of Phoenix II and I think I got some pretty solid stuff.
The first shots here are from an afternoon walk through the alleys in my neighborhood. Always a more interesting option than walking the main streets in my opinion.
The next day I took a walk around a different nearby neighborhood, Benton Park West to finish off this roll. I had one or two particular shots in mind that I wanted to get. I was able to get one of them, the other I would have had to stand in the middle of Jefferson Avenue to get, and I wasn’t about to do that.
After finishing the roll of Phoenix, I loaded some Lomography Lady Grey into the Mat 124G. I shot the whole roll then dropped both off for development. Unfortunately, the roll of Lady Grey was apparently blank. Oh no! Did I mess up another Yashica TLR? Did I load it improperly? Once I was notified of the blank roll I frantically checked the shutter on the camera I had just borrowed, it was working just fine. Maybe I did something wrong when loading the film? Stay tuned for the next episode in the Yashica chronicles to find out! (I put another roll through it today, and I’ll post an update once it’s developed)

Super solid stuff, buddy. The reflection shots are eerily sharp, I love it. Jealous of the 400H stock you’re sitting on at the moment, it’s lovely looking stuff.
Rally's fries were a staple of my childhood, so that is a high fave! Hope your Yashica is an easy fix. I have the 124 mat and I really enjoy shooting with it, but I am often afraid I will misload it!
